Israel hotels are usually modern and extremely comfortable. Remember that Israel is an ancient land but a young country. The majority of commercial buildings were constructed since Israel’s creation in 1948. The King David is probably the most famous of all Israel hotels firstly because of its status as a luxury hotel but also because the rich and famous have stayed there over the decades. These include King, Queens and Emperors. During the British Mandate, prior to the launch of Israel, a wing of the hotel was used as the British administrative and military HQ. This hotel is so redolent of history that the film “Exodus” was shot there in the sixties. Major expansion came to the hotel in 1967 when, after the Six Day War, two additional floors were added. Supporting Israel hotels by promoting tourism to Israel is the Israel Hotel Association (IHA), an umbrella organization representing about 350 hotels from Metulla in the North to Eilat in the South. It also serves as a useful go-between for hotels, government and local authorities. The IHA has a council, a board of directors and a president. It has a headquarters and 10 branches across Israel.

The IHA also fulfills a useful function by initiating, organizing and supporting professional training sessions, so improving the status and professional level of industry workers. It also maintains the academic level of the hotel industry by establishing contacts with universities, in order to assure academic training for hotel industry positions. Visitors to Israel have the peace of mind that the IHA is looking after the interests of hotel visitors, albeit in an indirect fashion. The IHA’s ambition is to increase the number of bed-nights and the number to tourists in Israel hotels and in this respect it is making huge strides.
