Holidays in Israel with interesting sites to exploreHolidays in Israel will introduce you to a country where old and new, secular and holy, exist side by side. It is a country that is less than 100 km (60 miles) at its broadest point. Tel Aviv, a vibrant city, grew out of Jaffa, its neighbouring city, at the end of the 19th century. It soon became the largest Jewish town in Palestine. Jaffa is one of the oldest functioning harbours in the world. Arriving at Ben Gurion Airport, visitors are likely to choose one of two directions: eastwards to Jerusalem or westwards to Tel Aviv. When planning holidays in Israel you will have to take the climate in consideration. Tel Aviv has mild and sunny, sometimes wet, winters and hot humid summers. The inland hills to the east offer a cooler, drier climate. Jerusalem is situated on a peak 830 metres (2,700 ft) high, with hot dry summers. Late afternoon breezes temper the heat of the day, and during winter there can even be a dusting of snow. The best time to visit, however, is during spring when the hills are ablaze with flowers. Book your Holiday To Israel With Expedia When spending your holidays in Israel you will find that Jerusalem is still the centrepiece, as the city always rewards the visitor with its riches. The market-places, ruins, temples, churches, mosques and hotels are all readily accessible. Today, more than 3,000 years after King David made Jerusalem his capital, the city still fires the imagination like no other place can. A visit to the central and south coast is usually a must for people on holidays in Israel. The Carmel Range runs for approximately 25 km (16 miles) along the coast, rising to about 500 metres (1650 ft) and falling steeply to the Mediterranean Sea. The Mount Carmel National Park, Israel’s largest forest preserve, is situated there. It includes picnic facilities, well-marked hiking trails and views that will take your breath away. The Mediterranean coastal plain is the site where you will find the country’s most luxurious hotels for holidays in Israel. From April to October thousands of Israeli’s flock to the beaches to swim, run, sail and play paddle-ball along the water’s edge. After all that activity one can relax in the sun and watch others do the same. Another place of interest to visit during you holidays in Israel is Ashkelon, which is one of the world’s oldest cities. The city reached its zenith during the Roman period. It is the archaeological park however that makes it special and the preservation of this area is a rewarding sight. Here the visitor can walk through the ruins of Herodian colonnades, ancient synagogues, along a Roman avenue into a long-abandoned amphitheatre. Today it has industrial plants, contemporary apartment blocks, but also some beautiful beaches. The Ein Gedi oasis is the epicentre of the Dead Sea region. Rare desert wildlife and rare species of birds and flowers inhabit this nature reserve. In 1994 the land in and around the Ein Gedi kibbutz was officially recognized as an International Botanical Garden, where tired hikers can relax in the afternoons at the beach. |
